The summer of 2009 was characterized, at least in the months of June and July, with periods of atmospheric stability with abnormal heat alternating with periods of instability with scattered thunderstorms and temperatures broadly in line with the climatological average. The high temperatures recorded in the first two summer months are due to the presence of an anticyclonic structure of African matrix, which however failed to fare permanently disturbed since, at almost weekly intervals, from the entrance of Atlantic perturbations in the Mediterranean .
