Climate

The 2007 harvest was one of the best in recent years. Winter temperatures were very mild and this has fostered an advance of the vegetative vineyards of about two weeks. All the physiological cycle of the plants it has been affected and the time of harvest was anticipated by about 10 days. The summer, tend drought but not torrid, allowed optimal ripening of the grapes, causing a slight decrease amount in favor of a high quality, found in all grape varieties grown in the Tenuta La Braccesca: this has resulted in wines from high concentrations of color and the particular aromatic richness and structural.

Winemaking

The grapes from the vineyard Santa Pia in the town of Montepulciano, suffered before harvest careful selection, carried out in part in the month of July (green selection) and partly about a month before harvest. Reached the optimum ripeness, the grapes were harvested by hand and taken to the cellar where we proceeded to a soft pressing. After fermentation lasting about 20 days, carried out at a temperature not exceeding 28 ° C, the resulting wine was introduced in barrels from 3:05 hl, where malolactic fermentation. The period of aging in wood lasted 15 months during which the wine was racked several times. The wine was then bottled and made a further refinement of about 20 months.

Historical data

This wine is produced from a vineyard of 15 hectares located in Santa Pia, one of the most popular areas for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The vineyard is planted with Blackthorn Gentile (Sangiovese) carefully selected over the years in order to get a cru that best expresses the character of this area. Tenuta La Braccesca, which altogether covers a total area of ​​420 hectares, is composed of two separate bodies: the historic core of the company is in the area of ​​Montepulciano, with 103 ha of vineyards planted in the best sub for production Nobile di Montepulciano; the other, with 162 hectares of vineyards, is located at the foot of the hills surrounding Cortona.

Tasting notes

A ruby ​​red color with garnet reflections, the Santa Pia 2007 presents a perfume articulated in scents ranging from tobacco, the ripe red fruit, vanilla. On the palate the wine is elegant, with soft tannins and balanced followed by mineral notes and spicy. The finish is long and persistent.
